What is coaching?
At its heart, coaching is about helping you become the creator of possible. You are the expert on you. The curiosity, intuition and provoking conversation of the coaching alliance, will help you to unlock your potential and talent. It will empower you to live your best life, in whatever you choose to do.
How will a coach help me achieve my goals?
Health coaching is a growing field, with DHB’s and GP’s now employing health coaches full time. Built around the latest science in relation to nutrition, fitness, mental health, medication and behaviour change, a health coach will help you to take a holistic look of every aspect of your life, and take back control of your choices, health and life direction.
A health coach is there to support you, guide you towards finding your own answers, champion your successes (and help you refocus following setbacks), and like a sports coach, hold you accountable for achieving your desired goals.
Understand your why: Changing behaviour isn’t easy. A health coach will help you peel back the layers of the onion and identify your real why. Creating an emotionally rewarding, immediately gratifying, self-driven ‘why’ that pertains to your passions, interests and values is the number one key to changing behaviour – it determines how you feel, how you behave, how motivated you are and whether you will stick at something for the long-run or not. Meaning drives behaviour, and we will work together to find the gift you are going to give to yourself in order to achieve your goals – your empowered why.
Accountability: when you share your goals with someone, you are 70% more likely to achieve them. A health coach is with you every step of the way, coaching you, supporting you, and holding you accountable for your success. You will have access to email and text message support throughout your journey and someone on your team that genuinely cares about your progress.
Goal setting: A health coach helps you define your priorities, set goals, develop step-by-step plans in order to achieve them, and track and measure your progress along the way. Each session we will debrief on the previous period and establish a new set of actions for the coming period.
How often will we meet and for how many sessions?
We will agree on this in our first discovery session. It is important to note however, that coaching isn’t a quick fix - long term behaviour change takes time and commitment.
What will we talk about?
Every session is different, and you are the driver of every session. Typically we will begin with a brief chat about where things are at, gain some insight and consider new options. We’ll explore and work through these, to develop a new set of actions for the coming period until we meet again. Each session, we will be working together to create tangible progress toward your goal. Coaching may include values and communication style clarifying questions, making empowering requests and holding you accountable to commitments.
I may at times give you specific and/or expert advice, information and solutions, however you remain in control and responsible for all choices and decisions.
What happens between sessions?
The work you do and the discoveries you make on your action plan between sessions is crucial to your success. I will look forward to hearing your progress each week.
Can we meet online?
Absolutely! You don’t have to live in Taupo to engage me as your coach. Online sessions are done through Zoom. Simply choose the Zoom option when booking your initial Discovery Session.
Do you work with other health practitioners?
Definitely. Working with a multidisciplinary team can be fundamental to achieving the best outcome for you. I will often refer you to various wellness experts such as personal trainers, physios, dietitians, naturopaths, GP’s, specialists, and counsellors, depending on your needs, and will happily work with existing professionals you may already be working with.
